World Renowned Canadian Artist to be Honoured at 2013 Pioneers For Change Awards Ceremony.

CBC News Anchor Suhana Meharchand will host the 21st annual Pioneers for Change Awards, which recognizes extraordinary Canadian immigrants who have made major contributions to our nation. The remarkable Honourees are outstanding examples of Canada’s diversity and serve as an inspiration to newcomers and citizens alike.

This year’s Women in Leadership award is being presented to the talented and accomplished, Maya Eventov. A premiere Canadian artist, who immigrated from Russia in 1990, Maya’s work is highly sought after. She creates more canvases and sells more work internationally each year than any other Canadian artist. Her vibrant and artistically unique work can be found in the private collections of Jean Chrétien, Hillary and Bill Clinton and Laura Bush, to name a few.

True to the spirit of these awards, Maya’s nomination was suggested by a first generation, Independent Young Women’s group (13-18 years) who meet to discuss issues and look to leaders in the community for inspiration and mentoring. She was also suggested by Nasha Canada, a Toronto Russian newspaper.

Maya’s uniquely sculpted, textural acrylic canvases are instantly recognizable, filled with joy, light and a transcendent beauty. She always paints from a “happy place” and finds inspiration for these vibrant, romantic, colourful works through her travels around the world, as well as in her own backyard. Maya’s popular birch tree series of paintings share a special heart connection, as she loved the birch trees at her grandparents’ cottage in Russia and is surrounded by beautiful birches at her home here in Canada, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Creations Art Gallery in Ancaster has represented Maya for more than 28 years. During this time, owner, Dan Faulkner has had the pleasure of watching this gifted artist transform and transition through different mediums and subject matter. He says that, given the amazing trajectory he’s witnessed so far, he can only anticipate the multitude of great things that are yet to come from the lovely Maya Eventov.

Congratulations to Maya on this well-deserved, prestigious achievement! The 2013 Pioneers of Change Awards are being presented by Skills for Change, Thursday June 6th from 6-8pm at the CIBC Commerce Court West Tower.
